SC2:HotS Info

Intel Extreme Masters, featuring StarCraft® II: Heart of the Swarm™ as one of our main titles, will return to New York in October 10-13, 2013, after one year of absence.

As all of this season’s events, besides the World Championship, New York will have $25,000 in overall prize money and, being a WCS Tier 1 event, 750 WCS the 1st place finisher. As such, we've modified our tournament format to incorporate the global and regional WCS rankings.

The online qualifiers took place in multiple stages, the first one being an open sign up and the second stage and optionally third stage with applicants from the WCS ranking seeded into the bracket. Qualifiers across Europe, North and South America as well as Asia and Oceania have determined eight players that are seeded directly into Stage 2 of the tournament. The eight qualified players receive a fully paid trip to New York. Regional qualifiers ensured we have a diverse spectrum of talent from all over the globe.

The main event will take place over three stages. The first stage will spotlight the local and international StarCraft II talent with two brackets of eight competing for four spots in the second stage. The top four of the first stage will join the eight players from the online qualifiers as well as the top four applicants from the WCS ranking. These 16 players will then play in a group stage, battling fiercely to advance to the 8 man playoffs.
